Experiencing an Emergency?

If your animal is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 970-945-5401. Our staff and doctors will prioritize current clients in good financial standing and patients with up-to-date vaccinations and annual care with our hospital. If you have a balance with our hospital, you will be required to pay the entirety of your balance before ANY of the on-call doctors will see your animal.

SMALL ANIMAL

Glenwood Vet is the only veterinary facility in the valley who accepts same day urgent care and same day emergency appointments for small animals. With each of these services, there is an additional fee.

If you are experiencing an emergency with your small animal during normal business hours, please call or text us at 970.945.5401 for the fastest service. You can also email us at gvc@glenwoodvet.com, however call or text will be the most efficient.

If you are experiencing an emergency before 8:30am, after 5:00pm, or on a weekend or holiday, your call will be forwarded to Grand Valley Emergency in Grand Junction. Their staff will assess your presenting issue and contact one of our on call doctors to see you at our facility in Glenwood Springs. If it is deemed to require more intensive care, Grand Valley will direct you to come to their facility in Grand Junction. Please confirm with the staff member at Grand Valley which hospital you should drive to.

LARGE ANIMAL (Horses, Cows, Goats, Livestock)

In the event of a large animal emergency, please call 970.945.5401 and you will be directed to the on call team. If you are put through to a voicemail box, please leave a detailed message with your name, the animal’s name, sex, species, age, your regular veterinarian and the emergency at hand. The team is likely out of service or dealing with another emergency so please leave them a message and they will respond as quickly as possible.

All field service emergency calls will be charged a field service call (farm call) based on location AND an emergency fee. Same day urgent care appointments will be subject to an urgent care fee to accommodate for rescheduling other appointments.

If you are bringing a trailer to the hospital, please stop at the stop sign when you arrive and call the on call doctor so they can direct you where to park.

As one of the founding members of the Roaring Fork Valley Veterinary Emergency Co-op, Glenwood Veterinary Clinic is proud to partner with other clinics in the valley for emergency coverage to ensure that your large animals always have a veterinarian and hospital available. Our partners in the valley are Dr. Chuck Maker with Alpine Equine Hospital, Dr. Aslaug Mandel with Roaring Fork Veterinary Services, and Dr. Lee Smith with Parachute Veterinary Clinic.

Both Glenwood Veterinary Clinic and Alpine Equine Hospital have intensive care stalls, surgical suites and foal neonatal intensive care units (NICU). We are well equipped to treat colics, laminitis (founder), choke, bloat, lacerations, puncture wounds, joint flushes, dystocias, cesarean sections, eye injuries, lameness or limping, and neurologic cases. Your on call emergency veterinarians always have ambulatory and hospital divisions available.

Should your animal require more specialized equipment than our valley can offer, we refer to Colorado State University in Fort Collins where we have an excellent referral relationship.
